The Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) and the United High Commissioner for Refugee ( UNHCR) have ended a joint Year End Assessment Mission in South east Liberia. The purpose of the mission is to take stock of the volunteriary Repatriation
process in tern of logistical challenges and how to tackle. While in the Southeast, the mission also tour various points earmark for
volunteriary repatriation for Ivorian refugees living in Liberia.

In Nimba County on December 2, 2021 the Mission witnessed the repatriation of
over 600 hundred Ivorian refugees mainly made of men, women, children and the elderly who south refuge in Liberia between 2011 and 2020 due to electoral violence in Cote Voire. The team also visited the Maternity waiting room constructed for pregnant women at the Bahn Health Center by the UNFPA spotlight initiate among others.

The Mission meanwhile, visited the Bahn Public School and held talk with the teachers and tours the newly constructed computer lab for the students and also held meeting with the refugee’s population.

In Grand Gedeh, the Mission tours the Galley border, one of the areas earmark for the repatriation of 4000 Ivorian refugees living in PTP Settlement. The team also inspected 70 housing units constructed for Ivorian refugees who opted to locally integrate in Liberia and also held talk with the refugee’s population about the importance of the volunteer repatriation process.

Earlier, LRRRC Executive Director Rev. Festus Logan announced that beginning January of 2022, the government of Liberia will declare cessation for Ivorian refugees living in Liberia. Logan said any Refugee who fails to take advantage of the opportunity will forfeit their refugee’s status and will have to go through refugees status determination ( RSD) Rev. Logan thanked the Ivorian Government for the level of support given the Liberian Government that led to the development of a Roadmap for volunteriary repartition for the refugees.
