The Government of Liberia in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR) has completed a verification exercise for Ivorian Refugees living in Liberia.
The verification targeted refugees and asylum seekers in communities and settlements of Montserrado, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, River Gee and Maryland counties respectively. According to a LRRRC and UNHCR release, the main objectives of the verification
exercise are to;
i. Verify all Persons of concern registered and living in Liberia.
ii. Enroll Biometric (Iris Scans, Finger Prints and Picture) for every Persons of concern in Liberia operation.
iii. Update Biodata Information/Address/Specific Need Cases to be in line with National and Regional Data Sets.
iv. Undertake Continuous registration (New Birth Registration).
v. Undertake Local Integration (LI) Survey.
vi. Undertake the Vol-rep intention Survey.
vii. Close all No Shows, individuals that will not have presented themselves for VRX, After 3 Months.
viii. Issue Proof of Registration for all cases already verified
ix. Mop up and make a list of POCs not registered in the communities for future registration.
The release stresses that at the ended of the exercise on May 31, 2021, a total of 31, and 602 individuals representing 88% of the total persons of concern living in Liberia registered with team.
In terms of County disaggregation, Nimba 56% of the total verified persons of concern Grand Gedeh 25%, Maryland 11%, River Gee 7%, and Montserrado 1% of the total verified persons in Liberia.
